Honoring Ed Kimball

Commissioner KimballIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long-time Fire Commissioner Edward “Ed” Kimball. Commissioner Kimball was a dedicated and highly respected member of the Fort Myers Shores Fire Department family even before being elected to his first term in November 2008. He tirelessly served and supported the Fort Myers Shores community and the fire department from the moment he moved here.

Even before he joined the Board of Fire Commissioners Ed was deeply involved in helping to plan and guide the growth of the Fort Myers Shores, Buckingham, Olga, and Alva communities. As a member of the East Lee County Council he worked on the development of the Caloosahatchee Shores/Olga Community Plan and worked closely with all of these surrounding communities. He was highly respected throughout Lee County but his main focus was always right here in Fort Myers Shores. He was one of the founding members of the Fort Myers Shores Civic Association and served until his death on the Caloosahatchee Shores/Olga Planning Council.

Not least among Ed Kimball’s many accomplishments was his generosity and his willingness to help anyone who needed a hand. He was ready and willing to devote days or even weeks to helping a neighbor in need, but unless you were that neighbor you might never know. He never wanted recognition.

The son of a FDNY firefighter and accomplished New York City businessman, Ed Kimball will be greatly missed by the Fort Myers Shores Community and the Fort Myers Shores Fire Department he served.
