Fire Chief: Robert Rewis

In December 2022, Robert Rewis took over as the Fire Chief of Fort Myers Shores Fire Protection & Rescue Service District (FMSFD) after the retirement of Fire Chief Christopher Dowaliby.  Chief Rewis is a lifetime resident of Southwest Florida, born and raised here in Lee County.  He graduated from Riverdale High School in 2003.  While completing his senior year Chief Rewis attended Edison Community College now Florida Southwestern State College and completed his EMT “Emergency Medical Technician” training and then started fire school in 2004.  Chief Rewis started in the fire service as a volunteer for Bayshore Fire Rescue just to our North and was hired here at FMSFD in 2005. While working as a shift Engineer Chief Rewis also was completing the fire inspections and investigations for the district as well as becoming a member of the Lee County Arson Task Force assisting with investigations all around Lee County.  In 2018 Chief Rewis was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief / Fire Marshal, then promoted to Assistant Chief in 2021 and then to Fire Chief in 2022.

Chief Rewis holds an associate degree in Fire Science from Florida Southwestern State College and a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University.  Chief Rewis currently holds a state certified firefighter, EMT, Pump Operator, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Fire Investigator II, Fire Officer II, Incident Safety Officer, and Live Fire Training Instructor I certifications.  His current memberships include the Lee County Fire Chief’s Association, Florida Fire Chief’s Association, Lee County Fire Marshal’s Association – Vice President, Florida Fire Marshal’s Association, International Association of Arson Investigators – Florida Chapter, Lee County Fire Arson Task Force – Deputy Commander.  Chief Rewis is a highly motivated individual who strives to lead the department providing the highest level of care and services to the residents of Fort Myers Shores, Verandah, and River Hall.
